Webinar - Web Standards, Html 5 & Accessibility

August 31, 2011: 10:00 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. (MDT)*

*All times in Mountain Daylight Time (MDT)

Seminar Description

Starting with Html 4, many features were integrated into Html standards that further accessibility, including the establishment of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to allow the separation of content from formatting; an emphasis on semantic markup, which encourages page structure and markup that allows easier navigation, particularly for Assistive Technology users.

With Html 5, however, the web is evolving from a browser/document-based experience to a desktop-like application accessed on multiple devices. What does Html 5 mean for Web accessibility? Is accessibility compromised or enhanced with this new standard? This session will review promising new features in Html 5 that promote accessibility and discuss possible challenges ahead and advice for ensuring Html 5 accessibility.

Accessibility

Captioning

All our webinars include real-time captioning. A url to access the caption stream will be sent before the seminar along with instructions and tips for using it with the webinar interface. The video recording of the webcast will be captioned and posted following the event. (This usually takes a couple of weeks).

Screenreader Access

Unfortunately, most of the control buttons on the V-CUBE interface are not labeled semantically. We are working to remedy this issue as quickly as possible. In the meantime, here are some tips for using the V-CUBE interface with a screenreader.

Ticket Types

Individual Ticket

Play the seminar on your computer. Includes access the captioned recording of the event afterwards.

Group Ticket

Project the seminar in a meeting room or hall to as many of your colleagues as you like. You can share access to the recording of the event with any of your colleagues. Broadcast of the event is limited to one location. You may purchase additional "site add-ons" to show the event at multiple locations.

Site add-on

This option, when purchased with a group ticket, allows you to project or show the webinar at an additional site. Once you have purchased a group ticket you can purchase as many "site add-ons" as needed.

How Does It Work

After registering for the event, you will receive an e-mail a few days before the event with the instructions and url to connect to the webinar. You will also receive instructions on testing your system before the broadcast day. After the event, once the recording of the webinar is captioned and posted, you will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to access the posted video.

CEUs

CEU credit of .3 is available for this seminar. An additinal $65 processing fee is required along with the submission of paperwork that documents your completion of the seminar. This paperwork will be posted shortly.
